ACT 4 CAP: Citizen engagement towards a sustainable Europe

Mit dem Projekt ACT 4 CAP können sich BürgerInnen, Jugendliche und LandwirtInnen an der Agrarpolitik der EU beteiligen. Ziel ist es, das Bewusstsein der BürgerInnen für die Auswirkungen der EU-Politik auf Ernährung und Landwirtschaft zu schärfen und das Vertrauen zwischen der ländlichen und städtischen Bevölkerung, sowie ihr Engagement für ein nachhaltiges Europa zu stärken.

Friends of the Earth Gruppen in Österreich, Tschechien, Dänemark, Frankreich, Ungarn, Malta, Polen und Spanien führen dieses Projekt zwischen Juli 2019 und Juni 2020 durch.

In ganz Europa finden im Rahmen des Projekts hunderte verschiedene Aktivitäten statt, darunter:

• Bürger-Landwirte-Austausch: dabei sollen Räume und Möglichkeiten geschaffen werden, in denen Jugendliche, StadtbewohnerInnen und InteressenvertreterInnen aus dem ländlichen Raum zusammen kommen, um über den EU-Prozess und die nationalen GAP-Strategiepläne zu diskutieren und sich zu diesen Themen auszutauschen. So soll gegenseitiges Vertrauen aufgebaut werden und eine Zusammenarbeit entstehen.
• Europaweite Aktionstage zu "Good food & good farming"
• Konferenzen über die Rolle der „Gemeinsamen Agrarpolitik“ (kurz GAP)
• GLOBAL 2000 veranstaltete die Konferenz "Landwirtschaft der Zukunft" im Rahmen des am 11. und 12. Mai 2020 in Wien stattfindenden Kongresses „Visions for Transition - How Agriculture and Cities of the Future can save Biodiversity“.
• GLOBAL 2000 hat gemeinsam mit Friends of the Earth Europe ein Factsheet zum Thema "Die Zukunft der Landwirtschaft" erarbeitet: Die Zukunft der Landwirtschaft downloaden

Visions for Transition - die Ziele der Konferenz

1. Die Entwicklung solider wissenschaftlicher Beweise, dass die auf agroökologischen Grundsätzen basierende Landwirtschaft die Welt (jetzt und in Zukunft) ernähren kann, und die Landwirtschaft nicht von der Verwendung chemischer Einsatzstoffe wie Pestiziden und Düngemitteln abhängig ist.
2. Diese Erkenntnisse sollen mit politischen Entscheidungsträgern geteilt werden, um eine umweltfreundlichere Agrarpolitik in der EU zu fördern (GAP).
3. Mit konventionellen LandwirtInnen über eine pestizidfreie Produktionweise in Dialog treten.
4. Die Information verbreiten, dass der Übergang in eine agroökologische Landwirtschaft nicht nur notwendig, sondern auch möglich ist. Dadurch sollen bestehende zivilgesellschaftliche Bewegungen gestärkt werden und neue entstehen, die den Wandel unseres Nahrungsmittelsystems anstreben.
5. Der Kongress soll im In- und Ausland so viele interessierte Menschen wie möglich erreichen. Dafür werden zwei Livestreams eingerichtet (Deutsch und Englisch), die aufgezeichneten Videos der Vorträge werden auch nach dem Kongress auf unserer Website abrufbar bleiben.

ACT 4 CAP: Citizen engagement towards a sustainable Europe

Engaging citizens, youth and farmers in EU farm policies.

The project’s aim is to increase the awareness of citizens about the impact of EU policies on food and farming and increase trust between rural and urban populations, as well as their engagement towards a sustainable Europe.

Friends of the Earth groups in Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Hungary, Malta, Poland and Spain are running this project between July 2019 and June 2020.

Across Europe, hundreds of different activities are taking place as part of the project, including:

• Citizen-farmer exchanges to bring youth, urban people and rural stakeholders together to learn, discuss and collaborate on issues related to the EU process of national CAP strategic plans, as well as building trust and collaboration between them
• Europe-wide "Good food & good farming" action days
• Conferences on the role of the CAP
• As part of the project, GLOBAL 2000 organized the conference "Agriculture of the future", which was a part of the congress „Visions for Transition - How Agriculture and Cities of the Future Can Save Biodiversity“ in Vienna on May 11th and 12th.

The main goals of the conference are:

1. to develop solid scientific evidence that agriculture based on agro-ecological principles can feed the world (now and in the future) and that agriculture is not dependent on the use of chemical inputs such as pesticides and fertilisers.
2. to share this evidence with policy makers to promote a more environmentally friendly agricultural policy in the EU (CAP).
3. to initiate a dialogue with conventional farmers on pesticide-free production.
4. to disseminate the information that the transition to agro-ecological farming is not only necessary but also possible. This should strengthen existing civil society movements and create new ones that seek a change of our food system.
5. the congress should reach as many interested people as possible, both at home and abroad. For this purpose, two livestreams (German and English) will be set up and the recorded videos of the lectures will remain available on our homepage after the congress.

These activities will be supported by extensive online, offline and media outreach campaigns to raise awareness about building a better food and farming system in the EU.
